Wrestling Coach Under Fire For Mocking George Floyd’s Murder

A Washington state high school wrestling coach is under fire for mocking the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer.

Bethel High School coach Dave Hollenbeck shared an image of himself on the floor, smiling, while someone else placed a knee on his neck. The photo was depicting the scene prior to Floyd’s death.

“Not dead yet I’m doing this for our police officers the media is a race baiting machine and I’m tired of it,” Hollenbeck wrote, per KIRO-TV reported Wednesday. “I’m going to speak out every time if you don’t like that I’m sorry but I love All people.. Wake up America.”

In another post, Hollenbeck wrote, “This is for all the race baiters and people that don’t What they’re talking about when they’re saying this could kill you.”

The posts have been removed since.

Bethel School District spokesman Doug Boyles released a statement in regards to the posts,

“We are investigating the post,” Boyles said. “Dave Hollenbeck is not a teacher. This was his first year as a wrestling coach at Bethel High School. As wrestling season is over, he is not working for us right now.”
