A Japanese mother reportedly convinced her daughter to undergo double eyelid surgery so she could “look more beautiful.”

The mom, Rucchhi, said to VICE Asia that she wanted her daughter Micchi, 9, to have the procedure so that she might feel more confident about her appearance. The mother felt unattractive as a child because she didn’t have double eyelids as her sister and mother had. Mrs. Rucchi said she wished she had the treatment done sooner and decided to have double eyelid surgery on her 18th birthday.
“A girl needs double eyelids. I have never seen a girl with monolids who I thought was pretty. Double eyelids are beautiful. Double eyelids are the beauty standard. I say this again and again.”

Micchi decided to get blepharoplasty, popularly known as double eye surgery, and said that because her eyes appear to be beaming at people, they are too small. The excruciating operation, which necessitates a surgeon to cut into the eyelid creases and remove loose skin, reportedly cost her mother $2,850. Micchi experienced problems following the two-hour operation.
In addition, Rucchi said that if her daughter ever feels self-conscious about her chest size, she wants her to get breast augmentation surgery and a nose operation when she is older.
The child’s plastic surgery case led to her mother facing criticism.
After the video was uploaded on VICE TV’s Youtube channel, commentators were stunned that children under 18 could get plastic surgery. In Japan, it is legal for children to get plastic surgery as long as their parents permit it.

I would only think cosmetic surgery should be allowed for children if they are mentally impacted by bullying due to a physical feature like ears sticking out etc. Something that is clearly and obviously causing then emotional distress due to bullying etc.”
