A woman in Thailand has endured two decades of severe pain after medical staff accidentally left a needle in her body during childbirth.

The incident took place 18 years ago when a nurse accidentally dropped a needle into a woman’s vagina while stitching her up after childbirth. Despite the doctor’s attempts to retrieve the needle manually, he was unsuccessful. According to the Independent, concerned about delaying the suturing and fearing a more significant loss of blood, the doctor decided to proceed with the procedure without removing the needle.

Additionally, the financial burden of her ongoing medical issues has taken a toll on the woman, who visit the hospital at least four times a month for follow-up appointments. Her family reached out to the Pavena Foundation, who decided to help with the case.

It remains unclear when the woman will undergo surgery to remove the needle or whether she will pursue legal action for potential medical malpractice.
