The awkward incident took place on Delta Flight 1360 en route from Syracuse, New York to Atlanta, Georgia. However, it is believed that the incident occurred earlier this month. News of the incident went viral on social media after several text messages were sent via the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System. It reads, “Passenger 13A is breastfeeding a cat and will not put cat in the carrier.”

A flight attendant named Ainsley Elizabeth who worked during the flight said on TikTok that the woman was met by security guards once the plane landed in Atlanta: “This woman had one of those, like, hairless cats swaddled up in a blanket so it looked like a baby. Her shirt was up and she was trying to get the cat to latch and she wouldn’t put the cat back in the carrier. And the cat was screaming for its life.”

According to Newsweek, the message was sent from a flight attendant and in response, ACARS said the situation will have to be addressed by the airline’s “Red Coat” team once the plane lands. Delta Airlines requires all animals to remain in their carriers and breastfeeding mothers are allowed to breastfeed their babies during a flight.

“Delta fully supports a woman’s right to breastfeed on board Delta and Delta Connection aircraft and in Delta facilities. Breast pumps are allowed on board. At the airport and if you prefer, many airports do offer private lactation rooms or spaces. Ask a Delta associate if you need assistance locating one at an airport.”
