This Tuesday, the pharmaceutical company said people who receive a booster shot of its COVID-19 vaccine two months after the first shot will have significantly higher protection against symptomatic illness in a closely watched clinical trial:

Mathai Mammen, global head of research and development at Johnson & Johnson, said in the company’s announcement: “Our large real-world evidence and Phase 3 studies confirm that the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine provides strong and long-lasting protection against COVID-19-related hospitalizations. Additionally, our Phase 3 trial data further confirm protection against COVID-19-related death.”

As many are aware, Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine is currently the only single-shot vaccine offered in the U.S. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are both administered in two doses.
