White Professor Quits After Impersonating A Woman Of Color To Make Racist, Sexist Tweets

After a “thorough and fair investigation,” a white male professor, identified by The Daily Beast as Craig Chapman, has quit his position at the University of New Hampshire after impersonating a woman of color to post racist and sexist tweets. UNH President James W. Dean Jr. and Chief Diversity Officer Nadine Petty say that after a four-month investigation, this unnamed chemistry professor has stepped down.

In September, the school launched the probe after a white male chemistry professor was accused of posing as a woman of color on Twitter and posting provocative tweets about racial injustice (sparked by the death of George Floyd), gender nonconformity, and angry “leftists.” It’s also reported the imposter posted nude photos of former, California congresswoman Katie Hill (who resigned in October 2019 after her nude photos first leaked). This all occurred under the Twitter handle piney_the, with the username “The Science Femme, Woman in STEM.”

Additionally, Glen Miller, head of the school’s chemistry department, has stated that the professor in question had admitted to running the fake account. Miller says, “The fake Twitter account was in fact set up and run by (the professor). There were a large number of things written by (the professor) that ranged from unfortunate to hurtful to deeply offensive. As I mentioned, I spoke to (the professor), twice actually. (The professor) is embarrassed and overwhelmed and shell shocked. He fears that this could be the end of his academic year.”

Furthermore, the UNH officials’ email read, “While we are limited in what we can say in order to protect the privacy of all involved, we can share that the faculty member chose to resign when the university concluded that the conduct exhibited was not consistent with the university’s values and our expectation that every faculty member contribute to a professional academic environment free of intimidation and harassment.”
