Concerns about President Biden’s health continue to grow following the comments he made on Wednesday. During a speech on the effects of climate change, President Joe Biden seemingly indicated that he has cancer. However, the White House quickly clarified the president was referring to a previous diagnosis before his presidency.
While speaking to a crowd in Somerset, Mass., about the health effects caused by emissions from oil refineries near his hometown in Delaware, Biden said, “That’s why I — and so damn many other people I grew up with — have cancer and why for the longest time Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the nation.” Of course, Twitter assumed that Biden was making a revelation. An account run by the Republican National Committee, quickly posted a video clip, tweeting, “Did Joe Biden just announce he has cancer?” The claim quickly gained traction among conservative figures online.
White House deputy press secretary, Andrew Bates, quickly put an end to all the speculation and responded by pointing to a tweet from Glenn Kessler, the editor and chief writer for the Washington Post’s Fact Checker. Kessler debunked the claim, pointing out Biden had minor skin cancers removed prior to his presidency, which was noted in a health report released last year. “This is what the President was referring to,” Bates tweeted.

How dumb is this tweet? Check out Biden’s medical report. Before he became president, he’d had non-melanoma skin cancers removed. Has no one at @RNCResearch ever had this common procedure? https://t.co/TS9VWtKcYC https://t.co/itklkVZIor

Back in November 2021, Biden’s physician acknowledged that the president had several “localized, non-melanoma skin cancers” removed before assuming the presidency. The November 2021 report said the lesions were “completely excised, with clear margins” and the rest of the body skin was examined for dermatological surveillance. Although Biden had some areas treated with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, the physician noted that there are no areas that are suspected of being skin cancer as of the time he was examined.

Last month, former President Donald Trump trolled Biden after a now-viral video showed him falling off of his bicycle. Trump said at the time via The Hill: “Joe Biden is the worst president in the history of our country. He is now turning out to be a combination of Jimmy Carter and Herbert Hoover. Has anyone looked at the stock market lately?” He then went on to say, “I hope [Biden] has recovered because as you know, he fell off his bicycle. No, I’m serious. I hope he’s okay. Fell off a bicycle. I make this pledge to you today – I will never, ever ride a bicycle.”
President Biden did not sustain any injuries from that fall.
