Here’s an interesting story to kick off your Friday. A mystery creature has been captured on surveillance camera and now a Texas city is asking people for help id’ing it…
The city of Amarillo, in north Texas, shared the photo on Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday that had a still image shot that came from a game camera stationed outside the Amarillo Zoo. The caption read, “The Amarillo Zoo captured a strange image outside the zoo in the dark and early morning hours of May 21 (around 1:25 a.m.). Is it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk at night? A chupacabra? Do you have any ideas of what this UAO- Unidentified Amarillo Object could be?”
The parks and recreation department director for the city of Amarillo Michael Kashuba told CBS News on Thursday that members of the zoo were casually looking at footage from game cameras placed throughout it when they came across the photo. He said a staff member had sent him the image, and after talking with other coworkers, they reached a consensus: “Nobody could figure out what it was.” He added, “And so, that’s where we decided to kind of reach out to our community to see if there was any thoughts on what it could potentially be,” he said. So what the heck is it?

Kashuba noted that no animals were harmed and no one was at the facility at the time. He added that most importantly, there’s no sense of fear, he said — “just more of a curiosity.”

Since they don’t know, social media users are trying to put their investigative skills to the test. One Twitter user said, “Chupacabra sightings only date back to 1995. It’s probably the last piece of mythology to enter the mainstream, and the culture has been poorer without cryptids and mysteries like them.” Another added, “Amarillo has a lot of ‘interesting’ folks and it gets boring there. This is more than likely someone wandering the area. If you zoom out the top of the head almost looks like a cowboy hat, and might have a tool looking for something along the fence edge maybe.”
A third said, “My guess would be Coyote jumping the fence rotated a bit right of being directly facing the camera. It’s probably blurry compared to the surrounds due to the speed of the coyote mid jump and the low light/ exposure time the camera has.”
