[Watch] Rev Al Sharpton Delivers Eulogy During Emotional Funeral Service For Daunte Wright

The funeral for Daunte Wright has begun at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis this Thursday afternoon, just less than two weeks after he was fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop.

As we previously reported, Wright, who was just 20 years old and a Black father of a 2-year-old, was fatally shot by officer Kim Potter during a traffic stop. Authorities say she mistakenly fired her gun thinking it was her Taser but she has since resigned and been charged with manslaughter.

Emotions were high at the church as Wright’s funeral opened with trumpeter Keyon Harrold played a rendition of “Amazing Grace” and “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” often referred to as the Black national anthem. Rev. Al Sharpton later began to deliver the eulogy.

Ben Crump, attorney for both the Floyd and Wright families, asked attendees to stand and repeat the proclamation, “Daunte Wright’s life mattered.” Crump along with many people has called for more serious charges against Kim Potter, the white officer who is charged with manslaughter in Wright’s death.
