In a surprising and amusing turn of events, a BBC News reporter found herself in a rather embarrassing situation during a live broadcast.
Maryam Moshiri, a well-known reporter for BBC, can be seen raising her middle finger to the camera just as the show’s sequence came to an end. The incident, caught on live television, quickly went viral, leaving viewers both shocked and amused.
As the broadcast began, Moshiri was seen raising her eyebrows and making the offending gesture, seemingly unaware of her mistake. However, it didn’t take long for her to realize what had happened, as she promptly lowered her finger and seamlessly transitioned into delivering the day’s headlines. “Live from London, this is BBC News,” she said right after.

Maryam has since taken to X (formally known as Twitter) to explain that it was just a “joke” she was sharing with her colleagues. She wrote: ”
“Yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery.
I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one.”
She went on to say, “When we got to 1 I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera. It was a private joke with the team and I’m so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn’t ‘ flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person really.”
