USPS Temporarily Removing Mailboxes In Major Cities Ahead Of Inauguration Day
Ahead of Inauguration Day, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will be temporarily removing mailboxes in a number of major cities.
While bracing for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris‘ big day, the USPS will also delay mail collection at some mailboxes. USPS spokesman David Partenheimer says, “It’s part of our normal procedures to keep our employees and customers safe during times of protest or when large crowds are gathered near postal facilities, on postal routes, or by mailboxes.” Partenheimer adds that a similar safety measure was enacted during the inauguration of President Donald Trump in 2017.

Furthermore, the removal or locking of select cities’ mailboxes are listed a security measures to protect postal property, employees and the public. It’s noted that at least 17 states and Washington, D.C. jurisdictions have been notified. Additionally, at least 14 post offices in the nation’s capital will be temporarily closing ahead and on Inauguration Day.
