US Justice Department Charge Ahmaud Arbery Killers With Federal Hate Crime

The U.S. Justice Department has filed federal charges against the three men who killed Ahmaud Arbery, adding on to the charges for his death.

The announcement was made on Wednesday after a federal grand jury indicted Travis and Gregory McMichael, and William “Roddie” Bryan on several charges which include attempted kidnapping and interference of rights as reported by TMZ. The father-son duo, the McMichaels, is facing more charges which include brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Additionally, Travis was indicted for discharging a Remington shotgun before Arbery’s death.

Prosecutors allege that the trio attempted to kidnap and hold Arbery hostage while chasing him in their vehicles. They added that the men are currently facing state charges for the murder.

Arbery’s mother told the outlet that she’s thankful for the federal charges since she knew based on certain circumstances that the outcome would be different in the state of Georgia. Recently, a new law was passed to ensure cases like this uphold individuals at the fullest extent of the law.
