U.S. Appeals Court Enforces Trump Abortion Rules

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has decided to uphold the Trump Administration’s rules imposing additional hurdles for women seeking an abortion.

Additionally, the 7-4 ruling overturned the decisions made in Washington, Oregon and California; now banning taxpayer-funded clinics from making abortion referrals and prohibiting clinics receiving federal money from sharing office space with abortion providers.

Subsequently, the latter rule would force many to find new locations, undergo expensive remodels or even shut down; which we’ve seen with Planned Parenthood, who left the Title X program and gave up nearly $60 million a year in federal funding.

Furthermore, more than 20 states and civil rights and health organizations fired back against the rules in the Oregon, Washington and California cases filed.

Also criticizing the ruling was The American Medical Association, who stated, “This government overreach and interference demands that physicians violate their ethical obligations – prohibiting open, frank conversations with patients about all their health care options – if they want to continue treating patients under the Title X program.”

They added, “It is unconscionable that the government is telling physicians that they can treat this underserved population only if they promise not to discuss or make referrals for all treatment options.”
