UPDATE: Haitian Authorities Declare ‘State Of Siege,’ Close Borders After Assassination Of President Jovenel Moïse
Following the horrific assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, Haiti has declared a state of emergency.
Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph said in televised remarks that the government had declared a state of emergency amid confusion over who would take over the reins of the country: “Haitian people, stay calm as everything is under control. The council of ministers gathered to ensure the continuity of the state. President Jovenel Moise will not die without getting justice.”

As we previously reported, President Jovenel Moise was shot dead by unidentified attackers in his home in Port-au-Prince overnight in what it called a “barbaric act.” His wife Martine Moise was also shot and injured and receiving medical treatment. The incident has sparked more chaos on the unstable Caribbean country that was already dealing with escalation of gang violence, anti-government protests along with a nw surge in coronavirus infections. As a result of the recent crimes, CNN reports that Haiti’s borders and international airports will be closed and martial law has been imposed.
As of right now it is unclear who carried out the attack. However, it was said that suspects acted as DEA Agents who were speaking Spanish. We will continue to keep you updated when more details have been shared.
