What Happened to the University of Kentucky Cheerleader?
#Socialites, come get into this. A stunt cheerleader quickly learned that she couldn’t cheer and smile her way out of this serious situation.
Laken Snelling, 21, a competitive cheerleader at the University of Kentucky, was arrested after police discovered a dead infant in a closet inside her home.

According to police reports obtained by LEX 18 News, authorities were dispatched to Snelling’s residence on Wednesday, August 27, after a call came in about an unresponsive infant. When officers arrived, they uncovered shocking evidence.
The arrest citation stated that the “infant was located wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag.” Investigators say Snelling not only admitted to giving birth but also “admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel.”
At this point, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office has not released the cause of death. Officials confirmed it will be determined following a thorough investigation.
University of Kentucky Speaks Out
The University of Kentucky didn’t stay silent. They addressed the incident quickly and pointed questions back to investigators. In a short media statement, the school said:
“We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police.”
Where Is Snelling Now?
After posting a $100,000 bond on Tuesday, September 2, Snelling was released. But it wasn’t a normal walk back into freedom. She is now on “home incarceration with no ankle monitor.” That unusual setup has many people asking why restrictions weren’t stricter.
Legally, Snelling faces serious charges tied to the concealment of her infant’s death. Prosecutors could pursue counts ranging from abuse of a corpse to potential homicide-related charges, depending on the coroner’s final ruling. If evidence shows the baby was born alive and intentionally concealed, the legal implications could escalate even further.
