The explosive Oprah interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world, but, many British viewers were also horrified by the numerous pharmaceutical ads placed within ad breaks.

In the United States, pharmaceutical drugs are constantly advertised all over the media. In most other countries, including the UK this is highly illegal. Many international viewers of the explosive interview were left disgusted at the ads, pin-pointing the profit-making nature of American healthcare, and how patients are treated as customers.

“American medical adverts are some real dystopian s*** how you gonna tell me I might die,” read one tweet.

Others added that American healthcare is “truly a business” where in the UK the NHS provides free care fir everyone.

“How are the side effects of the medicine in American ads more lethal than the thing they’re treating???” asked another tweeter.

The shocking reactions opened up conversation all over social media.

“Americans it’s weird to them bc in the UK it’s illegal to advertise prescription drugs to the general public. Over there, people seeking healthcare are considered patients not customers.”

The US and New Zealand are the only countries that allow ads for prescription medications.
