Two Alabama Teens Leaving Prom Are Killed After Tesla Crashes Into Semi-Truck, Two Other Teens Left Injured
It is reported that early Saturday morning (April 15), two teenagers died in Tuscaloosa, Alabama after attending the Paul W. Bryant High School prom together. The event was held at Tuscaloosa River Market on Jack Warner Drive.
One of the deceased teens have been identified as 18-year-old Samuel Brown, who attended R.C. Hatch High School in Uniontown in Perry County, where he played football. In a Facebook post shared to the school’s official account, a spokesperson released a statement that read, “To say we will miss him would be an understatement.”
The other deceased teen has been identified as 17-year-old Madison Sims, who attended Bryant High School in Cottondale, where she was a member of the school’s track team. Speaking on both of the teens passings, a post by the Perry County School District read, “We ask that you please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate the days ahead together.”
In addition to the two teens who passed away at the scene after their Tesla collided with a semi-truck, two other teens were reported injured in the crash.
They have been identified as an 18-year-old female from Montgomery, who was transported to UAB Hospital with serious injuries. The other teen was identified as a 17-year-old female from Marion, who was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa with minor injuries. The latter teen was listed in good condition as of Saturday morning.
According to officials with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the four teens were involved in a car crash when a 2022 Tesla they were traveling in crashed with a semi-track at Skyland Boulevard East and Interstate 20/59 about 1:50 a.m.
Tuscaloosa police officials add that the teens’ Tesla, which is believed to have been rented for their night on the town and reportedly malfunctioned, was pinned underneath the truck’s trailer, leaving all four teenagers trapped inside the car.
Police also reported that Sims was identified as the person driving the vehicle, while Brown was in the front passenger seat, and the other two teens in the backseat. Sims and Brown were pronounced dead at the scene.
Additionally, the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s traffic homicide unit has launched an investigation into the crash and it is ongoing.
