One thing about Elon Musk, he doesn’t care how famous you are — if you want to keep that verified badge, you better pay, okay! Starting today, the company has announced it will be removing checkmarks from accounts that are not subscribed to its Twitter Blue service. This practically means most celebrities, influencers, and notable figures will lose their verification badge.

In a tweet sent out by the official verified Twitter account, it mentioned that in order to keep the checkmark next to the name, people would have to sign up for Twitter Blue, which is priced at $8 a month or $84 a year. Many people have criticized Musk for the change, calling it a desperate money grab, but the second world’s richest man clearly isn’t moved by the negative feedback on his decision.

Musk previously said he wanted to get rid of the so-called “lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark,” and hopes that the change will make Twitter become a “digital town” that advocates for free speech and trust. He had initially planned to remove the blue checkmarks from those who weren’t subscribed to Twitter Blue on April 1 before changing the date to April 20. One user on the social platform reacted to the news, saying, “I’m not worried about losing my verified checkmark. I’m worried about everyone else losing theirs. The value of the checkmark does not lie with the holder but with the people trying to determine whether to trust the source.”

For those who don’t know, Twitter Blue is a new subscription service offered by Twitter that provides users with a range of exclusive features. These features are designed to enhance the user experience and provide additional value to those who are willing to pay for the service. Twitter Blue is currently available in Australia and Canada, with plans to expand to other countries in the near future.

There are a number of benefits that Twitter Blue offers to users. One of the key benefits is the ability to undo tweets. This feature allows users to quickly retract tweets that they may have sent in error, or that they have since changed their minds about. This is a valuable feature that can help to prevent misunderstandings and avoid embarrassment.

Another benefit of Twitter Blue is the Bookmark Folder feature. This feature allows users to save tweets that they want to refer back to later. The Bookmark Folder feature is particularly useful for users who use Twitter for research or for those who want to save interesting tweets for later reading.

Finally, Twitter Blue also offers a Reader Mode feature. This feature allows users to read articles and other content within the Twitter app, without having to leave the app to view the content in a separate browser. This is a convenient feature that can save users time and make it easier to stay up-to-date with the latest news and information.
