Channel 7’s “Weekend Sunrise” host Matthew Doran flew to London after landing the exclusive interview with the singer on November 4. During Doran’s interview, he revealed that he didn’t listen to the album, and Adele was reportedly offended by his comment but the segment was completed as scheduled. However, Doran learned he was taken off the air for a week after Channel 7 was notified about the outcome of Adele’s interview. It cost the media outlet approximately $1 million AUD(725,000 USD) to secure the rights for the interview along with access to the Oprah special with Adele “One Night Only.”
“When I sat down to interview Adele, I was totally unaware that I’d been emailed a preview of her unreleased album. I have since discovered it was sent to me as an ‘e-card’ link, which I somehow missed upon landing in London. It was an oversight but not a deliberate snub. This is the most important email I have ever missed,” he said.
