A travel influencer who said she upgraded to business class while leaving her son in economy class on a flight is receiving backlash online after her post went viral on social media.
Karen Akpan, is known for posting travel videos with her husband, Sylvester and son Aiden and after one of her latest videos, Karen seems to be upset because people in her comments have been “mom-shaming” her. On May 12, she shared a short clip of her and Sylvester holding glasses and toasting each other while seated in what appeared to be business class seats on an airplane.
“POV: Enjoying business class with my husband on a 13-hour flight while our 10-year-old sits in the back in economy class because he doesn’t have United Premier 1K status like we do and didn’t get a complementary upgrade,” the caption on her post read. She added, “Sorry son” along with three cry-laughing emojis. One person commented on the video saying, “Y’all need parenting classes. The whole notion is wild. The other adult passengers on the plane are not your village in the event something catastrophe happens and you can’t get to your child.”

Karen clapped back at the commenter saying, “I need parenting classes 😂😂😂 sure !! Thanks for the suggestion.”
After receiving many mixed reviews regarding the incident, Karen went ahead and addressed all the folks who had negative comments about her parenting skills.
“If you’ve been following me for any amount of time, then you know surprising people is my love language 🥰.”
“And, you may know that I prob wouldn’t let me son fly alone in economy, YET! in a few years though BYE ✌🏾 son, sorry 😂. However I won’t be declining the upgrade, so Hubs would have to be back there with him or alone (Sorry Hubs, love ya 😂). Lol”

There’s no right or wrong answer, please let’s stop with the mom shaming. I heard someone say they’d call CPS on me, another said I need parenting classes & another said my son would hate us & put us in a nursing home 😂. Bc people don’t do things like you do doesn’t mean your way is better. Stahp it 🙄!”
