Tom Brady recently spoke out about some of the clips that went viral from his Netflix roast.

While being the latest guest on @thepivot, the NFL legend opened up about how the roast affected his children and made it known that he wouldn’t participate in something like that again. The former NFL quarterback has three kids, a son with Bridget Moynahan and a son and daughter with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen. Although Brady did not mention the specific jokes that bothered his children at the Netflix roast, several comedians at the event targeted his relationship and split from Bündchen.

“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids,” Brady shared on the podcast. “It’s the hardest part about…like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”

“It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it,” Brady continued. “Sometimes you’re naive. You don’t know. When I signed up for that…I love when people are making fun of me. I always said when I was going through the Deflategate stuff that I watched three things on TV: Premiere League soccer, golf and comedy shows. Every time I turned on SportsCenter it was like, are you f***** kidding me? I just want to laugh. I wanted to do the roast because Jeff Ross became somebody I knew. But you don’t see the full picture all the time.”

Overall, Brady referred to the experience as a “good lesson for me as a parent,” adding: “I’m going to be a better parent as I go forward because of it. At the same time, I’m happy everyone who was there had a lot of fun. If we’re not laughing about things, we’re crying. We should have more fun. What do we love? We love laughing in the locker room. Let’s do more of that and love each other and celebrate other people’s success.”

The Netflix roast featuring Tom Brady was a huge success among subscribers. It was a key attraction of Netflix Is a Joke Fest and was led by hosts Kevin Hart and Jeff Ross. Comedians like Nikki Glaser, Tom Segura, Andrew Schulz, Bert Kreischer, Tony Hinchcliffe, and Sam Jay participated in the roast, along with Brady’s ex-teammates Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Drew Bledsoe, and others.

During her roast, Glaser specifically aimed at Brady and his divorce. One of her jokes referenced Bündchen starting a relationship with her jiu-jitsu instructor after breaking things off with Brady.

“Tom Brady. Five-time Super Bowl MVP, most career wins, most career touchdowns,” Glaser quipped. “You have seven rings — well, eight, now that Gisele gave hers back. The only thing dumber than saying yes to this roast was when you said, ‘Hey babe, you should try jiu-jitsu.’”
