Tina Davis, the former longtime manager of Chris Brown, says the call to perform on the world’s biggest stage — the Super Bowl Halftime Show — “is overdue.” She adds, “It will be one of the best [shows].”
On Saturday (February 7), Hollywood Unlocked was on the scene as EMPIRE Distribution Records and Publishing celebrated 15 years of music, culture and innovation at its EMPIRE 15: Full Circle Museum experience in California’s San Francisco Bay Area.
As officials over at Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium prepared the venue for Super Bowl LX (60), EMPIRE and Levi’s partnered for an experience showcasing EMPIRE’s contributions to the music industry and Bay Area.
Along with EMPIRE founder and CEO, Ghazi Shami, and EMPIRE COO (VP of Operations) Nima Etminan, Hollywood Unlocked spoke with Tina Davis, President of EMPIRE, about the label’s 15th anniversary. Davis also spoke with us about her decades-long career, spanning over 30 years, her time at Def Jam Recordings, her time managing Chris Brown from the very start, her start at EMPIRE in 2018, and what she’s up to now.

While recalling her time managing Breezy, we asked Davis if she believes it’s time for the NFL to make that call to have him take to the Super Bowl Halftime Show stage. As we noted the success of his recent stadium tour, Breezy Bowl, Davis also praised the tour and said Breezy’s past due for a call to headline a Super Bowl Halftime performance. She said:
“It’s overdue. And I’ll tell you—yes, I’m a little biased—but I think once they do it, it’ll be one of the best [shows]. He is an extremely, extremely talented entertainer. And I tell him all the time, like the arena tour, I said, ‘You’re only giving 85% and they don’t know that you’re only giving 85%. If you give them even 95%, they’re going to be in awe.’
And that 95 was him flying around that stadium. If he gives you 120, you’ll never see anybody touch him. He’s that incredible. And he goes, he doesn’t have to stop. Three hours dancing and singing like he does and still looking comfortable?!
After the show,I’m like, ‘You’re not tired? Your body’s not aching?’ He’s walking around like it was nothing. I’m like, ‘Shoot. I’m just watching you. I’m tired. Just watching you.’
But, it was a very proud moment to see him reach his potential, or let people see what he can do. Now, it’s time for some more movies like ‘Takers’ and ‘This Christmas.’ My little sister watches ’This Christmas’ every single night.
So, I told him again, just recently at the Grammys, I said, ‘As soon as somebody puts you in a movie, they’re going to see that it’s going to sell out. And these kids and these women and these men are going to be in that theater and it’s going to be a bestseller.’ So, I’m looking forward to that. It’s gonna happen. I’m gonna manifest that.”
Tina Davis’ comments arrive just a day before Latin superstar Bad Bunny took to the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show stage on Sunday (February 8). Following the show, Chris Brown took to his Instagram Story and wrote, “I think it’s safe to say… they need me! 😏”
