Tiffany Haddish talks sobriety and reveals she is three years sober from drinking alcohol following her viral appearance in court for a years-old DUI case.

Tiffany Haddish Arrested Twice For Driving Under The Influence (DUI)
In January 2022, the actress and comedian was first arrested in Georgia after allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel. In November 2023, she faced a second DUI arrest after falling asleep behind the wheel in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.
However, in February 2024, she struck a plea deal. In that case, she pleaded no contest to a reckless driving/vehicle code violation. She also had her misdemeanor DUI charges dismissed.
On January 14, 2022, Peachtree City police responded to a welfare call reporting a driver asleep at the wheel. An officer spotted a vehicle matching the caller’s description and stopped Haddish. They pulled her over as she turned into a residential driveway.
Police charged Haddish with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic control device, improperly stopping on a roadway and a parking violation. She posted bond and was released from the Fayette County Jail.
Tiffany Haddish Avoids Jail Time In Georgia DUI Case, Sentenced To Probation
Over four years later, in May 2026, her attorneys asked the court to dismiss the case. They argued the delay violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial. However, Fayette County Judge Jason B. Thompson denied the request. He ruled that Haddish’s attorneys waited too long to assert her speedy-trial rights. He also found no evidence that the delay harmed her defense.
Three months later, on August 11, 2026, Haddish appeared in court via Zoom. During the virtual hearing, she pleaded guilty to DUI, avoiding a criminal trial. As part of her negotiated plea agreement, several other traffic and lesser charges related to the stop were dismissed by the prosecution.
Haddish was sentenced to 12 months of probation and 24 hours in jail. However, she will receive credit for time served after her arrest. Haddish was also required to be tested during the probation period and ordered to complete a DUI course.
As Haddish wraps up her initial (and last outstanding) DUI case, she reflected on being three years sober and reveals all that keeps her on the right path. Taking to X on Saturday (August 22), she wrote:
“Hey, I stopped drinking altogether when I realized how much bad stuff I was seeing connected to alcohol. Sitting in court really opened my eyes. Case after case — domestic violence, child abuse, theft, fighting, Grape— alcohol kept showing up somewhere in the story. And I thought, damn… what would happen if I just never drank again? So I stopped. Over three years later, LIFE IS AWESOME. No more waking up in pain. No more waking up next to ugly people. No more toxic relationships. And narcissists REALLY don’t like sober Tiffany because I don’t feed into the mess anymore. It’s actually funny how fast a sober mind will run a toxic soul right up out of your life. I really wonder what would happen if everybody stopped drinking for just six weeks. How many arguments wouldn’t happen? How many bad decisions wouldn’t get made? How many people wouldn’t end up in court? I can only speak for me, but giving up alcohol gave me clarity. Over three years with no alcohol, and I can see my dreams clearer than ever. And now I actually believe I’m going to make every damn one of them come true.”
