The Weather Channel Iowa Station Broadcasts Racial Slur: ‘This Is Your Weather My N****rs’
A journalist named Matthew Keys tweeted that Iowa’s ‘Local on the 8s‘ station showed an offensive racial slur in the middle of their weather report.
He captioned the post and said, “I’ve blurred it, but I’m pretty sure you can figure out what it said.” The post graphic read, “Hello Des Moines, This is your weather my N****rs.”
Matthew also updated his followers on Twitter and replied to the original thread the following: “‘This did not originate with us, and we are in the process of investigating it further,’ a spokesperson for The Weather Channel said. It likely originated at the cable head-end, according to a source, though the network is still trying to figure it out.”
Several Twitter users commented and seconded the theory. One person speculated that “This came from the cable provider.” They added, “TWC has computer units at cable headends to produce the local on the 8s, and a rogue cable employee must’ve messed with the files and caused it to say that.”

After having one of its stations’ broadcasts go viral — in a bad way — officials handling the official The Weather Channel Facebook account sent out an apology regarding the matter.
They wrote: “A graphic during The Weather Channel cable network’s ‘Local on the 8s’ presentation in Des Moines last evening included a racial slur. We removed this graphic as soon as we learned of it. This did not originate with us, and we are in the process of investigating it further. We apologize to our viewers.”

According to The New York Post, a similar situation occurred back in 2019 with a meteorologist in New York.
The Post says that Rochester meteorologist Jeremy Kappell was fired from his NBC station after referring to a park named after legendary civil rights leader Martin Luther King as “Martin Luther C**n King Jr. Park.”
It is reported that Kappell claimed his offensive remark was an unintentional “verbal slip.” However, he was still fired.
Meanwhile, MLK’s daughter Bernice King in turn felt that the fired weatherman should not have been terminated. She instead claimed that instead, Kappell should have been demoted or rather sent to implicit bias training to correct his mistake.
Famed weatherman Al Roker also spoke out on the issue and defend the disgraced forecaster.
At the time, he took to his Twitter and said: “I think @JeremyKappell made an unfortunate flub and should be given the chance to apologize on @news10nbc Anyone who has done live tv and screwed up (google any number of ones I’ve done) understands.”
