The Notorious B.I.G.’s Plastic ‘King Of New York’ Crown Sells For $600K At Auction
Last month we reported that alongside Tupac‘s love letters, The Notorious B.I.G.‘s plastic “King of New York” crown was headed to auction. Now, as of Tuesday (Sept. 15), the $6 plastic crown has sold for nearly $600,000.
While hosting the first-ever dedicated Hip Hop auction at a major international auction, Sotheby’s ended up selling the infamous crown worn by Biggie — in his Barron Claiborne 1997 photo shoot, just three days before his death in Los Angeles — for $594,750. The piece was estimate to tell between $200,000 and $300,000.

Meanwhile, Pac’s collection of love letters, which was estimated to sell between $60,000 and $80,000, ended up going for $75,600. Other items in the Hip Hope memorabilia auction included Slick Rick‘s diamond eyepatches, which went for $25,200; a five-piece drum kit, once used by Queslove of The Roots, which sold for $30,240; and a pair of “Push It” jackets, previously worn by Salt-N-Pepa during a 2015 Super Bowl commercial, which sold for just under $24,000.
