The disturbing video shows Nhung Troung walking near a shopping center when the suspect grabs her from behind and snatches an envelope after her belongings are dropped on the ground. The male suspect returns to the scene after fleeing for several seconds, reportedly realizing he grabbed the wrong item and picking up Troung from behind again, then body-slamming her on the ground. Following the attack, the suspect took a different envelope containing $4,300 in cash. According to police, the incident occurred on February 13.
According to FOX 26, the incident damaged Troung’s spinal cord, and doctors believe she has a 50% chance of fully recovering. Troung, a single mother of three children aged 13, 15, and 20, is unable to walk or use the restroom without the assistance of a wheelchair.

Her family says the $4,300 was going to be used to visit family in Vietnam, but since the incident, her children have been trying to figure out a way to pay bills. “It’s been really bad. We have to pay rent and stuff, and she’s the only one that can work and help us. We don’t know what to do. If a miracle happens, she can walk again,” said her daughter Van Duong.
An Duong, shared a similar sentiment, and he says he’s worried no one would be able to help their family with money.
“I’m feeling very horrible and sad at the same time. I can still go to school, but my mind is just messed up thinking about her, worrying that nobody is going to watch out for her.”
Troung is receiving rehabilitation treatment, and she hopes she’ll be able to walk again.
“I just need to practice, try to walk and stuff, I’m very sad that this happened to me and I just want to let people know to be careful.”
The family created a GoFundMe account to fundraise money so Troung’s medical expenses could be covered.
“My mother has always been the head of our family, and seeing her in this condition has been devastating. She has always been a strong and independent woman, and to see her struggle with simple tasks such as getting out of bed or using the bathroom is heartbreaking. As a family, we are doing everything we can to support her, but the costs of everyday expenses and on going care such as apartments rent, water bill, electric bill, etc. Not only that I have two younger siblings who are still in high school with my grand-mother and in my mom current state we dont have alot of money for food.”
Currently, the family has raised $34,000 since posting the page and their goal is $50,000 to cover the expenses which include their rent and groceries.
