A Texas principal is facing criminal charges after authorities say he allegedly sold prescription weight loss medications to teachers and staff members at the school where he worked.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 4, Gerardo Moreno Mendez is accused of selling prescription GLP-1 weight loss drugs to three employees while serving as principal in the Crowley Independent School District. The alleged sales reportedly took place in January.

What Geraldo Moreno Mendez Is Accused Of

Court records allege that Moreno Mendez illegally sold prescription-only GLP-1 medications to three teachers and staff members. GLP-1 drugs, which include medications commonly prescribed for diabetes and weight management, require a valid prescription.

Authorities have not publicly released additional details about how the alleged transactions took place or which specific medications were involved.

He Never Started His New School Position

Following the investigation, a spokesperson for the Crowley Independent School District confirmed Moreno Mendez is no longer employed by the district.

FOX 4 reports that Moreno Mendez had been selected in April to become principal at Godley Middle School, but he never officially began working for the Godley Independent School District before his arrest.Alt text: “Geraldo Moreno Mendez arrested after allegedly selling GLP-1 weight loss drugs.”

Moreno Mendez’s attorney said his client voluntarily turned himself in after an independent investigation by the school district. The attorney also noted that Moreno Mendez had previously been reinstated following the district’s internal review.

“By that time, the school district had already conducted its own investigation and reinstated him as principal. Although we are limited in what we can disclose at this time, that is a significant fact that should not be overlooked,” the attorney said in a statement.
