On Tuesday, Tiaundra Christon was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the 2018 death of her daughter, 2-year-old Hazana Anderson. Months prior to the conviction, Christon was found guilty of tampering with a corpse after authorities revealed she and her boyfriend Kenneth Hewett dumped the toddler’s body into Moses Lake. She also reported the child missing afterward then walked around with a baby doll to throw off witnesses’ accounts.

Court documents also reported Hewett was given the same sentence. Before Anderson’s death, Christon traveled from College Station to Houston to visit Hewett and stayed at the Houston Downtowner Inn. During the visit, Hewett took the toddler to get some food and when they came back, Anderson was crying. Hewett started to violently assault the child with a belt and asked Christon to do the same.

The couple took turns beating the child and Anderson went in and out of consciousness. Christon also said she tried to give her daughter a cold bath and noticed she was sexually assaulted. Moments later, Anderson died from her injuries and the couple proceeded to take her to the lake to dispose her body.

A medical examiner said the bruises on Anderson’s body did not determined whether it was a homicide and it remains inconclusive.
