Yikes! Texas Man Sentenced To 70 Years In Prison For Spitting At Police Officers
It is reported that on Wednesday (April 12), 36-year-old Larry Pearson was found guilty on two counts of harassment of a public servant, after being accused of spitting at officers from the Lubbock Police Sheriff’s Office.
Pearson was first arrested in Lubbock back in May of 2022 for a domestic violence incident. The female victim flagged down a police officer in the 200 block of Zenith Avenue, alleging that Pearson had hit her several times in the face, leaving her with “multiple visible injuries.”
The victim also alleged that Pearson had a gun, which turned out to be an Airsoft gun.

According to officials, Pearson reportedly got angry when officers ended up only arresting him, and never taking the victim into custody.
Being so, after the two police officers placed him in their police cruiser, they said Pearson allegedly began to kick the door of the car. And when the two officers opened the door to demand that he stop, they said that he spat at both of them.
Officials say even once they arrived to Texas’ Lubbock County Detention Center, Pearson continued to spit at them inside of the facility.
It is reported that during the closing arguments of the sentencing phase of Pearson’s trial, Prosecutor Jessica Gorman advised the jury to carefully consider “a number that would ‘send a message'” to Pearson and to the rest of society.
Following Pearson’s verdict and sentencing, Gorman referenced his criminal past — noting he had prior convictions of aggravated robbery and continuous family violence — and said, “You’re not going to get 70 years for something like this when you’ve never been in trouble before. If you’re going to live the life of crime, you’re going to do that among other criminals [in prison].”
During the same sentencing phase of his client’s trial, Pearson’s defense attorney Jim Shaw told the jury that the sentencing was for a “simple misdemeanor” in a circumstance that got “out of control.”
Following the closing arguments, the jury ended up leaning with the prosecution and found Pearson guilty. And he was sentenced to 70 years in prison.
It is reported that considering his prior convictions, the minimum sentence that Pearson could have received would have been 25 years.
