Texas HS Students Disciplined After Holding Mock ‘Slave Auction’ Of Black Classmates
A group of students at a Texas high school have recently been disciplined after allegedly holding a mock “slave auction” of their Black classmates on Snapchat.
It’s reported that the Aledo Independent School District (AISD) — which holds more than 6,000 students, with nearly 80% of them being white — confirmed that the sick and racist stunt was carried out by students from its Don R. Daniel Ninth Grade Campus. They were made aware via screenshots from a Snapchat group, reportedly titled “N****r Auction,” where students had pretended to bid on their fellow students, who were Black.

Reportedly, one student offered to pay $100 for one of his peers, while another offered $1 or a boy identified as Chris Johnson, adding, “It would be better if his hair wasn’t so bad.” Officials from the school district determined that in the chat “racial harassment and cyberbullying had occurred,” and warranted disciplinary actions; however, they did not provide details on what they’d entail.
In a statement from the district it read, “I know I speak for our entire Aledo community when I say that I am deeply sorry that a few of our students engaged in racial harassment of two of our students of color in a social media chat. I am also deeply sorry for the hurt that it has caused the victims and their families. It was totally unacceptable to all of us, and it should not have happened.”
