Tennessee National Guardsman Is Charged After Applying To Be A Hitman On Parody Website
According to the U.S. District Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Tennessee, a 21-year-old man named Josiah Ernesto Garcia, of Hermitage, began a job search in mid-February for extra income to better support his family.
Law enforcement officials say that Garcia specifically searched for contract mercenary jobs, and eventually stumbled upon a website called www.RentAHitman.com.
The site is a bogus platform created in 2005 that “contains false testimonials from those who have purported to use hitman services, and an intake form where people can request services. The website also has an option for someone to apply to work as a hired killer.”

Garcia ended up submitted an employment inquiry to one request posted on the website. Included in his submission, was identifiable documents, like a resume (that indicated his nickname was “Reaper”), and details on his various skillsets, like his military experience (Air National Guard since July 2021) and being an expert marksman (ie: his “nickname”).
According to a criminal complaint, it is reported that in one email obtained, Garcia allegedly wrote, “I’m looking for a job, that pays well, related to my military experience (Shooting and Killing the marked target) so I can support my kid on the way. What can I say, I enjoy doing what I do, so if I can find a job that is similar to it, (such as this one) put me in coach!”
The DA’s Office revealed that the whole time, Garcia was unknowingly in direct communication with an FBI agent, who was requesting that he murder someone for an agreed upon amount of $5,000.
On Wednesday (April 12), Garcia reportedly went to a park in Hendersonville, TN, where he met up with the agent, again unknowingly.
During their meeting, the agent handed over a packet to Garcia, which contained photographs and information about a fictional target, plus $2,500 as a down payment. Upon agreeing to the terms, Garcia allegedly asked the agent if he needed to take any photos as evidence of the hit. He was then arrested by FBI agents, who also recovered an AR-style rifle in his home.
As of Thursday (April 13), Garcia was charged with the use of interstate facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire. If Garcia is found guilty and convicted, he faces up to 10 years behind prison bars.
