According to an arrest warrant from the Hartford Police Department, officers responded to a call Saturday morning from landlord Victor King who stated his “roommate”, 42-year-old Jerry Thompson, had been waving a sword in a “threatening and terrorizing manner.”  Officers told King to give them Thompson’s cell phone number so they can contact him. It is unclear if they called Thompson that same day.

On Sunday afternoon, officers responded to multiple calls from King’s friends and a neighbor who was concerned about his wellbeing. When they entered the home, officers discovered blood-soaked sheets covering King’s body.

After police apprehended Thompson and took him in for questioning, he refused to answer any questions about the murder. However, he said to check the glove compartment in the white Jeep he used to flee the scene. The document showed that Thompson wanted to be acknowledged as a “sovereign citizen”, a person who believes they are not expected to follow any laws based on their status.

During his arraignment on Tuesday, Thompson declined to have a public defender. He is detained on a $2 million bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on August 18.
