The shooting took place last summer in Naples, Florida when 18-year-old Eric Justin allegedly attempted to break into Majury’s home while armed with a shotgun. In an interview with the New York Times, the family described how Ava’s social media presence caused Justin to stalk her movements online. The teen said it started in 2020 when Justin reached out to her and she even sold two photos that she already posted on Snapchat for $300 via Venmo.
Ava said she didn’t send any photos of her body and added that he reached out to her friends who reportedly sold her phone number and photos. He even requested nude photos on Venmo and “stuff that a 14-year-old shouldn’t be sending.” After she blocked him, Justin even offered to pay hundreds of dollars while begging the teen to unblock him. Her father, Rob, also wrote a message to Justin and warned him not to contact his daughter anymore. However, Rob discredited a threat that Justin sent to his daughter’s classmate where he said “I could just breach the door with a shotgun I think.” and assumed it wouldn’t happen because he lived far from their home.

On July 10, 2021, Justin appeared at her front door with a shotgun and fired at the front door. Rob chased him off and grabbed his handgun but Justin returned moments later. After pointing the gun at Rob, Justin was fatally shot. Since the incident, Ava’s parents are more involved in her social media career and are overseeing her accounts.
More security on our end. More reviews of accounts. More checking in. Just trying to be normal for Ava. Even afterwards people say, ‘Why would you allow this to continue?’ It became such a part of her personality and being that to take it away would maybe harm her more.”
