A Pico Rivera teen was killed and her siblings are injured after a deadly carjacking this weekend.

CBS Local Los Angeles reports the carjacking took place on Whittier Boulevard and Lindsey Avenue when 13-year-old Isabella Cortes was waiting for her parents with her siblings, aged 8, 11, and 18, outside of a restaurant. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported 27-year-old Jose Aguilar hopped in the car and sped off after Cortes’ two siblings managed to escape. Cortes and her 8-year-old brother were stuck in the vehicle when Aguilar got into a car accident before attempting to steal another car a few miles from the site.
The boy suffered major injuries and Cortes died at the scene. Aguilar was taken into police custody on Sunday and he has a previous arrest record for felony possession of a dagger and vandalism.

A vigil was held in honor of Isabella’s memory moments after the carjacking. Relative Brenda Santiago said in a statement that the teen was known as someone who “was friendly with people. She didn’t have any problems. She was super nice.”
