The 14-year-old boy jumped off of the structure’s eighth story and was pronounced dead shortly before 1 p.m. as reported by the New York Post. Developer Stephen Ross said in a statement that he believed he and his colleagues did everything they could to prevent further deaths among the structure but The Vessel may be closed for good as this is the fourth suicide since its opening in 2019.
“We thought we did everything that would really prevent this. It’s hard to really fathom how something like that could happen. But you know, I feel terrible for the family.”

A Hudson Yard representative said the incident is currently under investigation and the tourist attraction is closed for the remainder of the day,
“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and our thoughts are with the family of the young person who lost his life. We are conducting a full investigation. The Vessel is currently closed.”
The Vessel was recently reopened in May after it was closed down temporarily due to the number of suicides. Its owner also stated that they didn’t make any changes to the structures and a plan was enforced for visitors to enter as a group to prevent incidents.
