A month before the shooting, Jennilynne Derolfe, 38, secretly met with the 14-year-old victim. Derolf was arrested on July 15 and faced multiple charges which included unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault and institutional sexual assault, and several misdemeanors. The victim told police that the sexual relationship started in June after the Valley Day School teacher’s aide would text him on a messaging app.
Derolf was later released on bail on July 23 and terminated from her position at the school. However, police were informed on Sunday by the victim’s family who said Derolf organized a meeting with the boy secretly. When officers arrived at the scene, Derolf pulled out a gun and shot herself in front of the victim.
