Michael Koranda,46, made weed brownies after returning from a trip in Colorado with the weed butter he purchased. However, recreational use of marijuana is illegal in South Dakota and after he baked the brownies, Koranda went to sleep. His 73-year-old mother, Irene Koranda, unknowingly took the brownies and took them to a card game at the Tabor Senior Center on January 4.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bon Homme County dispatch received several calls regarding senior citizens from the center claiming they have been poisoned after eating the brownies. Michael was arrested the following day after investigators questioned his mother.

‘An investigation into the incident lead me to believe that the patients were all under the influence of THC from a batch of brownies that were brought to the Community Center by Irene Koranda.’

A police report states he was arrested at Tabor Elementary School and he agreed to hand over the remaining weed butter. It is currently unclear if he was placed on leave or fired from the school district due to the arrest. His court date was scheduled for January 25.
