At this time, the reason for the switch-a-roo has not yet been made public. Additionally, the plot of the upcoming film has also been kept under wraps and no further details have been shared publicly.
Meanwhile, at this year’s CinemaCon, both Martin Lawrence and Will Smith appeared and shared their excitement ahead of the fourth installment of the franchise. They both revealed that, at that time, they were about four weeks into filming the movie.
Prior to this latest new, it was rumored back in May 2022 that ‘Bad Boys 4‘ was put on hold due to controversy and backlash following the infamous Oscars slap heard around the world, involving Will Smith and Chris Rock.
However, Sony Chairman Tony Rothman shut down the rumors and false reports and claimed that was not the case. During an interview with Deadline, Rothman had nothing but good things to say about Smith, whom he has shared a working relationship with for years
Rothman explained that he has only ever known Smith to be a “good person.” When asked if the movie had been delayed by the actor’s bad publicity in months that followed the incident, he affirmed, “No. That was inaccurate. That movie’s been in development and still is. There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving.”
Following Smith’s actions, he released an apology on his Instagram account on March 28, 2022. He wrote: “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”
Smith continued, “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress. Sincerely, Will.”
