Target is again under fire after after a new kids Halloween costume surfaced on its website, leaving social media users calling out the company over the apparent “minstrel” and racist “Blackface” imagery.

The product hit their online and app storefront under the name: “Kids’ Glows under Blacklight Circus Clown Halloween Costume Bodysuit.” Target shows the product made by Hyde and EEK! Boutique, and they are selling it for $25.
As the product went live, consumers quickly headed to the review section and began leaving one-star reviews and comments blasting Target. The commentary on the Target site and app spilled over onto social media.
Social users began slamming Target over the costume, accusing them of continuing its controversial behavior. Users not only called out Target selling a costume seemingly resembling 19th-century minstrelsy and racist blackface imagery, but they said they’re not surprised.
They noted the current Target boycott — which began after the company discontinued its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives following President Donald Trump’s executive order on diversity programs. Trump signed the order upon his return to the Oval Office in January 2025.
Although Target has since pulled the controversial costume, social media users continue to circulate the product page and drag the company while urging for a continued boycott.
One person wrote, “This might be a good time to remind folks that the boycott of Target is still ongoing.” Another wrote, “The boycott will NEVER end.”
A third social user said, “Target is tone deaf. And shame on the talent agency and the parent that let this model this nonsense.” Someone else wrote, “Whoa! Might as well throw a watermelon and chicken wing in there for accessories. They still don’t get it.”
One person asked, “WTF [Why the f**k] are you all still shopping there?” Another said, “Don’t shop at Target!! Ffs [For F**ks Sake].” Another wrote, “I’mma just continue to not shop there.”
