Terrence Howard Sues 20th Century Fox Over “Hustle & Flow” Image Used On “Empire”

In the suit, Howard — who played Lucious Lyon on all 6 seasons of the series claimed 20th Century Fox used his likeness from a scene from the movie to create the “Empire” logo, according to TMZ. He claims they gave him the runaround when he asked how it came up with the “Empire” logo since he never did a photo shoot. After not getting a direct answer from the studio, Howard then determined that they just jacked it from the scene where his character DJay is recording his song “Hard Out Here For a Pimp” in a recording studio.

“The still frame was selected, reversed (face looking left, not right), and subjected to CGI that simply distilled the cinematographer’s skilled capture of the head with vibrant light and shadow,” the lawsuit alleges. Howard states that if Fox had gotten a proper license to use the image from Paramount, that he would have been paid.

The actor is suing for unspecified damages and he also wants a full accounting of Empire merchandise that was sold with that logo on it, according to TMZ.

Terrence Howard Reportedly Sues Fox Over Missing ‘Empire’ Checks

Terrence Howard is not having it! The actor’s company Universal Bridges, is accusing 20th Century Fox of refusing to pay up on money owed for his work on “Empire,” so he is now suing!

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Howard’s company is suing 20th Century Fox Film Corporation for breach of contract. In the docs, Universal Bridges, which is run by his current fiancé Mira Howard — says Fox agreed to pay Howard through the loan-out company for his work on the hit show. Although they’ve paid him in the past, apparently, Fox recently stopped.

Now, despite the money issue, the committed actor has continued to show up to work. However, his company accuses Fox of failing to pay him for the last three produced episodes “even though it was contractually obligated to do so,” the news site reports. Universal Bridges now wants the court to order Fox to pay Howard the money he is owed for those episodes as well as his attorney fees.

The big paychecks issue appears to stem from Howard’s ex-wife, Michelle Ghent, attempting to collect on $1.3 million owed to her.
