While talking about his role in the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones” where he played Khal Drogo, the 41-year-old shared how things went downhill for his family when his character was killed off after 10 episodes in Season 1. He said he spent several years struggling to pay the bills at the Topanga Canyon house he shares with his wife, actress Lisa Bonet, and their two kids.

“I mean, we were starving after ‘Game of Thrones,’” he shared. “I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.” Thankfully, things improved in 2016 when Momoa was cast in Justice League. The DC superhero film grossed over $1.1billion at the worldwide box office. He later snagged the mega role, “Aquaman.” He will be seen in the Denis Villeneuve film “Dune,” with an Aquaman sequel expected in 2022. He also says he’s booked through 2024!
When discussing the new trailer for “Dune,” he shared excitement that his name is alongside some Hollywood legends.
“It was ‘Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem,’ and I’m just like, ‘Oh my god. I can’t believe my name was with those names.’” he said. “I feel like I’m still a kid, freaking out.”
While Momoa’s career is only getting better and his life at home is happy, he says he still goes to therapy to work on learning to relax and to help him as a parent:
“I didn’t know what it takes to be a dad,” he says. “And I don’t want to just tell my son, ‘Because I said so.’ I really want to connect, and I want him to be vulnerable and open.”
