T-Pain Blames ‘Racism’ As The Reason He Stopped ‘Taking Credit’ For The Country Songs He’s Written For Other Artists

T-Pain is known for writing a lot of tracks for artists in the hiphop community, but in a recent TikTok the ‘Buy You A Drink’ artist revealed that he wrote a lot of country music as well. 

The 39 year old superstar opened up in a candid TikTok and explained how “racism” played a major factor in him not wanting to take credit for the country songs that he previously wrote. He admitted in the video that he’s a huge fan of the genre and shared that’s where he gets a lot of his melodies from, but he went to share some of the sad experiences that he had while writing songs. “Good music is good music,” T-Pain said pointedly. “I don’t give a f— where it comes from or what style it comes in.”

“Country music is where I get all my harmonies, country and gospel music. That’s where all my harmonies come from,” the Grammy winner shared, while mentioning that many people that he knows “feel like it’s not cool to listen to other genres of music.” He continued, “I done wrote a lot of country songs. Stopped taking credit for it because, as cool as it is to see your name in those credits and s— like that, the racism that comes after it is just like, ‘I’ll just take the check,’” T-Pain said.
