T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach are opening up about some of their darker days. While speaking on how they coped amid their unemployment and affair drama, Holmes admitted that he would have 18 drinks a day, while Robach admitted to 30 a week.

During Thursday’s episode (January 11) of Holmes and Robach’s podcast, aptly titled ‘Amy & T.J.,’ the couple got real about how much they were actually drinking during 2023, which they called their version of the COVID-19 pandemic, seeing as the former separately-married hosts lost their respective jobs at ABC’s ‘GMA3‘ over their work affair.

On their podcast, Robach, 50, explained, “I didn’t have a job to go to and I was away from a lot of friends and family. We were laying low. So what did I do? I drank a lot. A lot more than I ever have. I don’t think I have ever gone a full year where I drink every single day and that was 2023 for me.”

Robach did note that she wasn’t getting super “wasted” or sloppy “drunk” every day, but she was “keeping a buzz going all day or keeping a heightened state of mind during an anxious year.” Additionally, Holmes, 46, agreed that he too “needs to reexamine [his] relationship with alcohol.”

Together, the couple got candid and revealed exactly how much they were drinking before turning over a new leaf and going sober. In previous years, Holmes participated in Dry January and Robach revealed that this year is her first time doing the challenge, which she thanks Holmes for helping her find the courage to do.

She said, “I don’t know that I would have felt comfortable or — honestly this may sound crazy — but I don’t know if I would have felt brave enough or courageous enough to say, ‘I am 100 percent going cold turkey this month,’ if you hadn’t said, ‘I’m doing it and we can do it together.'”

During their Thursday podcast episode, Amy Robach admitted that she was having “over 30 drinks a week,” while T.J. Holmes said that he could “easily go through 18 drinks” a day. Holmes realized that his number was a bit higher than Robach’s, but explained that both of them, who are “big runners,” like to do what they call “runs to fun,” which sees them run several miles and then eventually “end at a bar.”

Holmes added, “Now we will run at 8 or 9 in the morning …. and I come back and we have a beer.” He noted that due to the “runs to fun,” he will typically already be “two drinks in” by lunchtime. After lunch passes, the pair will then have at least two more drinks, unless they have errands to run.

At that point, Holmes added, “[I could have] easily have a drink in [his] hand from two in the afternoon until seven, eight, nine, ten at night.” He continued, “So you do those numbers and that’s a drink an hour for another eight hours — or even less — but that is another eight hours of a drink in hand, plus the four I had during the day.”

The couple also highlighted that the “official guidelines say one drink is one beer or a five-ounce glass of wine or one and a half ounces of liquor,” so T.J. Holmes isn’t “pouring 18 drinks” per se, but instead just accounting for the heavy pours. The two former hosts also revealed how much money they were spending on their drinking habit per month.

After counting everything up and looking at their receipts from bars and the alcohol delivery app Drizly, the couple was left shocked. T.J. Holmes admitted that they spent $2,869 on alcohol in December 2023 alone. He even noted, “This doesn’t include, however, the trips we made once in a while to a liquor store.”

Together, the couple promised to be honest with their audience about their relationship with alcohol and encouraged listeners to do the same.
