Lucas Lillar,13, was wearing a mask that featured a blue line across a black and white version of the American flag when the teacher confronted him about it in a classroom at Lyman Gilmore Middle School in Grass Valley. The teacher told Lillar, “That’s not the American flag, that’s the new Confederacy flag. Well, we can’t do the Confederate, but we can put up the red, white and blue. No, it’s black, white, with some blue line in it.” Lillar replied that the flag is different due to the blue line to which the sub said in response, “Yeah, but it’s not American.”

The teen said he was confused about the exchange and didn’t understand why the teacher confronted him at first. “I was confused because I didn’t know what he was talking about at first. And then he kept saying that is un-American and how if the police don’t like you, they’ll shoot you,” he said in an interview with FOX News.
