Sports analyst and rumored presidential candidate Stephen A. Smith commentates on politics again as he reacts to former First Lady Michelle Obama insisting America isn’t ready for a female president — much less a Black one having seen the outcome with 2024 Democratic nominee, former Vice President Kamala Harris. Smith essentially calls for Obama to run to become America’s first female president or hush up and stop blaming men for past failed attempts.

Michelle Obama Says America Isn’t Ready For Female President, Referencing Donald Trump’s Victory Over Kamala Harris

Last Friday (November 14), Michelle Obama published a conversation she had with actress Tracee Ellis Ross to her YouTube channel. However, the conversation occurred during a November 5 event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music for her podcast with her brother Craig Robinson, ‘IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson.’

During the sit-down, the two discussed Obama’s new book, ‘The Look,’ politics, and current affairs. One point, Ross asked Obama if she felt that the role of the First Lady — serving as an archetype for “wifedom and femininity” — affected “the room that we’ve made for a woman to be president.” Obama replied:

“Well, as we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready. That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not. So, don’t waste my time. You know, we got a lot of growing up to do, and there’s still, sadly, a lot of men who do not feel like they can be led by a woman, and we saw it.”

Obama was clearly referencing the recent 2024 presidential election where President Donald Trump defeated former VP Kamala Harris. Trump had the same outcome during the 2016 election against former First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Elsewhere, the former First Lady to former President Barack Obama has faced speculation and calls to run for president herself. However, she has repeatedly declined the calls, insisting running for office is not something on her agenda.

On Monday (November 17), Stephen A. Smith took to his SiriusXM show, ‘Straight Shooter With Stephen A.,’ and reacted to Michelle Obama’s latest comments. Smith at first replayed the video of Obama’s sit-down. When the clip ended he shared two things that bothered him. The first was that Obama appeared to generalize all men against the female populace. He said if he were to generalize all women, they wouldn’t like it, so don’t do it to men.

Secondly, he claimed we just saw several women win gubernatorial and mayor seats in the last month’s state and city elections. He mentioned Mikie Sherrill securing the seat as New Jersey’s newest Democratic governor after defeating a Trump-backed candidate, Republican Jack Ciattarelli. Smith also mentioned Abigail Spanberger winning the governor’s seat in Virginia, and current New York governor Kathy Hochul.

Smith then referenced Clinton’s 2016 election run, noting she won the popular vote in the U.S. He went on to note that she outnumbered Trump by 2.9 million more votes. He then repeatedly asked, “What do you mean, ‘We weren’t ready?'”

Smith then replayed a video of him speaking on Obama back in August. The clip showed him praising her and telling her that if she would have ran for president should would have beaten him Smith went on to say that he still believes that, and even personally believed her husband could beat him.

As the clip ended, Smith asked his viewers if Obama came out today announcing she wanted to be the Democratic nominee, no one would beat her. He declared she’d beat out all of the current Democratic nominees and hopefuls and that she would even beat Marco Rubio, whom he feels is the best candidate the Republicans have.

Smith continued to insist, “There’s plenty of men who would vote for Michelle Obama,” before noting all of her accolades, qualities, and more. He said, “Run, Michelle, run. Run! But if you don’t, could you please stop blaming us?”
