Spotify Releases Statement After Joe Budden Ditches Exclusive Podcast Deal
As Joe Budden ditches his exclusive podcast deal with Spotify after two years — citing he has been “undermined and undervalued” — the company is now releasing a statement.
After losing their first big podcasting star, Spotify tells HotNewHipHop, “It was our desire to keep Joe Budden on Spotify. As Joe referenced on his show, we made him a considerable offer — one that was significantly larger and many times the value of the existing agreement and reflective of the current market and size of his audience. Unfortunately, we could not come to terms and we respect his wishes to find a new home for his show.”

Prior to their damage control, Budden announced that after the next seven shows, he’ll be pulling his hit show, ‘The Joe Budden Podcast with Rory and Mal,’ from the streaming service’s platform. Budden told Variety, “Spotify never cared about this podcast individually. Spotify only cared about our contribution to the platform,” adding that his podcast has been “undermined and undervalued.” Budden also shared his sentiments on the latest episode of his show, stating, “September 23rd, I cannot tell you where this podcast will be. But as it stands, I can tell you where it will not be, and that is Spotify. I don’t wanna come off as angry, upset or bitter because the reality of it is we both hit our goals.”
