Joe Budden Sounds Off On Drake, Interviewing Tekashi 69 & Content Ownership
It’s time for another round of “Quarantine Chronicles!” The latest episode welcomes rapper, personality and critic Joe Budden. HU’s Jason Lee and Joe began the conversation stressing the importance of content ownership and it spawning black millionaires. The two later discuss Tekashi 69, Joe’s Instagram live with Drake, children and much more.
Jason, who was formerly a union leader, shares his opinion on whether folks in the industry could effectively create a union against labels and publishers. He suggests that it’d be difficult as artists like Tekashi 69 would go against the grain and release music anyway. Joe simply retorts, “you need unity…at some point, it’s going to have to become inclusive of some other people.” He then revels in how we’ve seen a black president and so many black millionaires.

Later, Joe tells Jason that he doesn’t miss music, but he does miss performing at times. He claims, “the system is corrupt.” Using Tekashi 69 to support how the industry’s changed, Jason then asks Joe if he’d ever interview him, to which he bluntly stated, “No,” reasoning that his energy is off, even before his controversial court battles.
