Sofía Vergara, 51, Reveals She Split From Husband Because He Wanted Children And She Didn’t Want To Be An “Old Mom” — “I Feel It’s Not Fair To The Baby”
Last summer, the news of Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello’s split after seven years of marriage shocked their fans. However, in a recent interview with Spanish newspaper El País, Vergara finally revealed the reason behind their amicable separation.
The actress explained that the decision to end their marriage was driven by her reluctance to become an “old mom” as Manganiello wanted children. At 51 years old, Vergara candidly expressed her belief that it would not be fair to bring a child into the world. She emphasized that while she respects others who choose to have children at an older age, it’s not the path she wants to take. With her son, Manolo, now 32 years old, Vergara is ready to embrace the role of a grandmother rather than starting as a new mother.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Vergara shared. “I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.” She went on to say, “I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.” The actress went on to say, “I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things,” she added.
“When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while, and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”

More On Their Split:
As previously reported, Manganiello filed for divorce from Vergara in late July, just two days after the two released a joint statement announcing their separation.
At the time they requested privacy during their transitional period. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” they wrote.
Embracing the Future:
Since the split, Vergara has started dating again, showing that she is ready to explore new relationships and experiences. While her focus remains on her own personal growth and happiness, she remains open to the possibility of love, as long as it comes with a partner who already has children.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Vergara admitted she on the hunt to find a new man.
“I love it. Who doesn’t love New York City? The people, it’s the energy,” she said. “I think that you have more options with men, also.”
Vergara, who lives in Los Angeles added, “I’m single now, so in New York, there are more people. There’s not only actors or writers or directors; I think there’s a bigger [pool]. I’m going to spend more time in New York.”
