Long Beach rapper Snoop Dogg is weighing in on the Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl headliner controversy, and as he does it, he applauds New York rapper and mogul JAY-Z and seemingly shades New Orleans rapper Lil Wayne.

The Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl headliner controversy has been ongoing ever since JAY-Z’s Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL announced that the Compton rapper would be performing at 2025’s Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans, Louisiana, the birthplace and stomping grounds of rap legend Lil Wayne. Critics believed Wayne and his Cash Money/Young Money family, and/or the No Limit crew and other Louisiana artists, should have been tapped for the big day.

However, several other people believe K.Dot is more than deserving of the feat and, people like Snoop Dogg, believe a win is a win if a Black Hip-Hop artist is being highlighted at the nation’s biggest sports event. While appearing on a recently released episode of ‘Drink Champs,’ Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre talked about their journey in the music and entertainment industry, and having done the Super Bowl already, they gave their opinion on the Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne controversy. In February 2022, Dr. Dre headlined Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, and brought out Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, and Anderson .Paak.

Snoop Dogg said, “So, what we need to think about is, before JAY-Z got control of the Super Bowl, wasn’t no n***as performing. So, let’s go back to the essence of the beginning of… He’s creating a wave of artists to have an opportunity to perform. If you’re a good artist and you’re a great artist, your time will come.”

The Long Beach, CA rapper continued, “Like, I was never crying about it or mad about it. When Dr. Dre called me and asked me to [have] his back, I was there for him. But, I didn’t feel like, ‘Oh, I was supposed to be there or I was in demand to be there.’ This is a big event. People [are] looking at everything when they pick the Super Bowl performer. You should just be honored that Hip-Hop is being able to be seen on that platform, for all of us, and not hate on the next man, but be happy.”

Social media believed that Snoop Dogg seemingly shaded Lil Wayne while speaking about the Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl headliner controversy on ‘Drink Champs,’ as he said he didn’t “cry about” not being asked to headline the Super Bowl when it was Los Angeles (he was instead featured as Dr. Dre headlined). After the K.Dot news, Weezy has spoken out at least three times publicly over the defeat, being vulnerable about how hurt he was and how he’s turning the “L” into a lesson and not a loss.
