Slim Thug has taken to social media, explaining to fans how he’s managed to sustain a great chunk of his wealth throughout his two-decade-long career while other rappers are struggling to stay afloat. The “Welcome 2 Houston” lyricist explained that one of the reasons he’s been able to avoid any financial struggles is simply down to the fact that he doesn’t spend thousands on designer clothes, saying he prefers to buy reasonably priced attire.

He showed the price of one of his T-shirts, which is clearly labeled with a $5.99 tag while the shorts he’s wearing in the video cost him just $12.99. Thug went as far as to claim that he would prefer wearing clothes most people would probably deem cheap, but he goes home at the end of the night knowing his money is still intact. “Y’all don’t know because I have a million dollar worth of jewelry on,” he said while speaking of his very affordable club attire.

“Y’all be buying that designer, y’all be looking gay cuz all the designers are gay, and I be the one that’s standing there. There’ll be 10 of y’all with the same Christian Dior shirt […] and I be the one that stand out with a plain tee that cost me five dollars.. same as a happy meal — that’s how I stay rich this long.” Thug dropped his debut album back in 2005 and has gone on to release 12 studio albums to date.

And while fans on social media were mostly in support of his message of being smart about one’s finances, people weren’t too fond of hearing Thug use a homophobic slur to make his point.

“Did he really need to bring gay people into his message? I been I support what he’s saying but just kinda surprised we’re still using gay people as an insult in 2023,” one person wrote.

Others were quick to come to Thug’s defense, reminding people about a positive discussion he had with Big Freedia last year to talk about using proper pronouns when addressing people of different genders. In an episode of “College Hill: Celebrity Edition,” the “Check On It” rapper said he was keen on learning how he can avoid to offend someone by calling them by the wrong pronoun.

“I never been able to kick it with somebody like you, so I need to know the proper pronouns,” he told Freddia, who broke it down to him, explaining, “I’m gender fluid. I don’t have a pronoun. It’s a new age for me too with the pronoun stuff. With my homies in New Orleans who I kick it with and who I grew up with, I’m their bro. To my girls,

“I’m they sista. To my kids, straight and gay, I’m their mom. My sister, my blood sister, I’m her brother. And when she wanna call me her sister, I’m her sister. It really doesn’t matter to me because I know who I am.”
